In 2012, I challenged myself to create something new every day. The parameters? Use six words. As the year progressed, I ended up breaking the 6-word rule but the main point was to explore imagery, investigate form and texture, and, of course, play with type. You'll see a range of work. Much of it was influenced by what took place that day, everything from the weather to politics. Some of the results were stunning, some not so much. But that's what the creative process is all about.

6.25.12_Vandyland crop
Part of a piece I've revised entitled "Nashville Type". This area focuses on signage from an old diner-type restaurant named Vandyland near Vanderbilt University. Unfortunately, Vandyland no longer exists.

6.15.12_design album covers
Saw the movie Rock of Ages tonight which inspired this 70s-feel album cover design. In college, I always thought it would be cool to design the cover of an album—11 square inches of real estate. Maybe that's why I use the square format a lot in my design...

6.7.12_Totoro makes me happy
If you have not seen the Miyazaki film My Neighbor Totoro go out and find it—right now. It is so imaginative and joyful, a story for all ages. I had the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen. I can't get the ending song out of my head!
6.6.12_I want to be like Doyald
Doyald Young was the ultimate gentleman and extraordinary typographer. He knew intimately the ins and outs of letterforms and how to create the most graceful swashes. This image is created from drawing Doyald's typeface "Young Baroque".

Had some popcorn sitting in a bag and it was just crying out to be made into type! The popcorn is placed on a poster I made at a Hatch Show Print workshop.
