In 2012, I challenged myself to create something new every day. The parameters? Use six words. As the year progressed, I ended up breaking the 6-word rule but the main point was to explore imagery, investigate form and texture, and, of course, play with type. You'll see a range of work. Much of it was influenced by what took place that day, everything from the weather to politics. Some of the results were stunning, some not so much. But that's what the creative process is all about.

5.26.12_Jesus and tomatoes coming soon
A trip to the farmer's market reminded me of an old Kate Campbell tune named, you guessed it, "Jesus and tomatoes coming soon".

5.21.12_happy accident
This came from a printing error on a project sheet for my students. I scanned in the misprinted page and enlarged the word "typography". Now that's what I call a happy accident.
5.20.12_sunday
Created the background texture for my website, which is in the works. Letters are letterpress type, stamped and scanned.

5.16.12_R walking Es
For the last few years, I have been exploring design with letterpress type looking at type as shape, form, and texture, not as words. It's been an intuitive, materials-related process. Today I discovered that Dutch designer H. N. Werkman had been doing the same thing in the 1920s. Seeing his work has inspired me to be more proactive in my exploratory designs with type.

Johnny Depp as Barnabas, that is. Saw Dark Shadows today, the new Tim Burton film. Weird and wonderful, just as it should be, so is today's art.

5.10.12_bird on a wire
Had to break my six word rule for this one but I've always been fascinated with birds on wires. The background was one of my breyer rolling textures. The birds had been created for a painting.

Inspired by the kick-off of Musician's Corner in Centennial Park today, I also wanted to play with type in perspective.

At my daughter's request, here is a painting (3' x 3') that I created in 2008 based upon the mother and child reunion concept.
